On 14th February 2024, we proudly bid farewell to 16 bright minds embarking on a transformative journey to the Production Technologies Association of South Africa (PtSA) Centre of Excellence in tooling. This initiative, is as a result of the collaboration between PtSA, TEVETA, and ZAM, marks a pivotal moment in Zambia’s manufacturing landscape.
These students will spend 4.5 years in South Africa honing their skills, and upon their return, they’ll play a crucial role in training others in TEVET colleges. They will be a valuable resource in growing the manufacturing sector and fostering innovation in Zambia.
In her inspiring remarks, ZAM CEO Mrs. Muntanga Lindunda highlighted the critical role of Tool, Die, and Mould (TDM) expertise in enhancing efficiency, competitiveness, and productivity in our manufacturing sector. These 16 students represent a shared investment in reshaping Zambia’s narrative for TDM and manufacturing.
TDM training is a program that teaches individuals the skills and knowledge necessary to design, create, and maintain tools, dies, and moulds. These tools are used in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and medical space.
Hon. Felix Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science, emphasized the urgent need to break free from the cycle of import dependency. With the lack of TDM skills hindering our ability to harness raw materials effectively, Zambia has long been a ‘conveyor belt for imports’. It’s time for change!
We are immensely proud of these future game-changers and wish them the very best! Their success paves the way for a brighter, more self-sufficient Zambia.
