Dating from as far back as 2019, ZAM has remained steadfast as a champion of sustainable manufacturing practices in Zambia. Through its three-pronged sustainability strategy, ZAM has been making its members aware of good sustainability practices, recognising manufacturers who are making serious strides in ensuring environmental and water sustainability in their manufacturing processes, through the ZAM Sustainability Awards and supporting projects that embrace sustainability.
On Friday 17th June 2022, the Manja Pamodzi Foundation under Zambia Breweries Plc and a past recipient of the ZAM Sustainability Awards, partnered with Java Foods limited in their crusade to collect and recycle plastic consumer waste. ZAM was on hand to support the partnership with Mr Kasonde Chituta highlighting the importance of sustainable manufacturing practices. ZAM is elated by partnerships such as the one between ZB and Java Foods that create industry symbiosis, where waste from one manufacturer is picked up as an input by another manufacturer.
Initiatives in environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects have come to the limelight and shown their importance in recent years, mainly because of the adverse weather effects or climate change being experienced globally. And new studies have shown the actual extent of the damage brought about by pollution and environmental degradation.
It is for this reason that the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) will be hosting the Proudly Zambian Sustainability Walk on 25th June 2022. The event seeks to raise awareness on sustainability in the manufacturing industry while encouraging the uptake of high-quality local goods and services carrying the Proudly Zambian logo.
